A Happy Adventure

One way to get the most out of life is to look upon it as an adventure. ~ William Feather

A Happy Adventure

So the adventure begins, wait….this just in, you can’t depend on anyone. My moving company was going to pick up on the 16th or 17th, then the 17th at 8AM, then the 17th between 2 and 5PM, then, we need to talk, never a good sign with people you’re dating or moving companies. They call and start grilling me about last possible date, can someone be there, perhaps after you’ve left and moved 3000 miles, which then turned into we’ll update you Monday morning. I asked, we’ll have a truck on Monday? We’ll talk on Monday, goodbye. So, while the adventure begins, it’s beginning in a very stationary way, with me sleeping on my apartment floor since all of my furniture is gone and wondering when I’ll actually get on the road and whether or not this will cause me to have to ask my apartment complex for extra days (more money) extend my utilities and internet (more money) and push back the start date of my new job (costing me money) and causing me stress on getting into my new apartment etc…I really don’t want to drive into town on the first morning of my new job and have to change into wrinkled work clothes in the bathroom.

So the lesson tonight is to try and make the best of an unfortunate situation. So the upside, I got to listen to the Steeler game today and they won in fairly dramatic fashion. The Fantasy 5 California lottery is a half-million tonight so I could win that! I also got to tighten up the packing for the car and enjoy a couple of days of October summer in the bay area, this is the hottest month of the year here. A little bit of irony today, the high today in my new home is forecast to be 60 degrees, that was the low in my current home. The world is about to change in dramatic ways, you know, if and when I actually get on the road!

The delay does change things, I’d given myself about nine days to get across the US, now I’ll have five or six. So the little detours I was considering, a stop to see an old friend, perhaps a day digging for diamonds in Arkansas, or even just a spur of the moment stop to do something fun I see on the way. Those are all off the table, now this is a truck driving like run across the US, maximizing speed and long driving days and paying real close attention to weather. So less of a fun run and more Cannonball Run, that’s a movie reference for the old folks. So Eastbound and down, you know, when the green flag finally waives.

So I’ll enjoy the nice weather, kick back tonight and watch Pink Floyd at Pompeii, the first twenty minutes, Echoes part 1 is absolute perfection and a happy place for me. I hope you are doing something equally relaxing today and have a happy day my friends. ~ Rev Kane
